goooooaaaalllll

Atelier Utd recorded another hard fought victory last night in what was only their second game and the first with the new allstar Atelier lineup. It was a hard fought game of two halves against Addict FC who were worthy opponents. The final score 12 ? 8 was probably slightly flattering to the boys in green socks but deserved considering the wave of injurys that beset them from the first kick of the ball.

Not unlike the Italian national team Atelier Utd were rolling around on the floor like babys after nearly ever challenge but unlike the Italians we were really injured! Fitness, 1 burst football and a lack of pre match warm ups weren’t going to stop us though, a quick rub of the magic sponge and we were back playing the beautiful game how it was meant to be played. Passers by could have been mistaken for thinking they were watching Brazil with the silky smooth passing on display and off the ball movement which was sublime. The game finally came to end as it started with another injury, this time to Mischa (the cat) in goal… lets all hope he’s recovered for next weeks fixture!

Geocoding ? its all about the XY?s

geocoding-its-all-about-the-xys

Over the last few weeks I?ve been really getting evolved in the geo-coding scene, finding out what its all about, whether it?s useful or whether it?s yet another reason to prove George Orwell right when he wrote:

“Big Brother is watching you”
George Orwell - Nineteen Eighty-Four

So what the futon is this new?ish devilry, well wiki says this, Geocoding is the process of assigning geographic identifiers (e.g., codes or geographic coordinates expressed as latitude-longitude) to map features and other data records, such as street addresses. You can also geocode media, for example where a picture was taken, IP
addresses
, and anything that has a geographic component. With geographic coordinates the features can be mapped and entered into Geographic Information Systems.”

So how does that affect my little universe? To answer this I first need to use the flux capacitor and take you back in time to last year where Tom Coates was speaking at d.construct. (his talk) Tom talked about a project he was working on called Fire Eagle that allowed applications to pass your geo location back and forth. (more…)

Testing in IE

testing-in-ie

Okay so testing in Internet Explorer has always been testing (sorry about that - but it has!). IE 7 has shown a marked improvement in consistency but there are a large number of people still using IE 6, in fact a huge 28.9% of people which is unbelievable. Yet what is more unbelievable is that the figure is higher than the 24.9% of people using IE7. This figure is going up though and you can keep an eye on it here: http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp

So, it looks like we?re stuck with IE 6 for a while longer, and therefore testing on it is still necessary no matter how much you hate it (http://toastytech.com/evil/index.html). Testing on multiple browsers has always been a pain as you cannot run multiple versions of IE on a single operating system. Previous solutions to this problem have included: (more…)
